Why is Sanoma Media organising the App Challenge? That's easy: because we want to look to the future, debate new ideas with creative minds and provide a platform for innovation.
Michiel Buitelaar, COO of Sanoma Media Digital, explains: "Apps have become an indispensable part of today's webscape. Yet, it's still just the beginning. We at Sanoma take a hands-on approach in trying to find out where this will lead us. We can do so ourselves, but we're convinced that there are things going on and being created 'outside' that, on our own, we wouldn't see or discover just like that. That’s why we want to work with clever people on the 'outside' and learn from them. That's what this App Challenge is all about."
Winner of the 2010 App Challenge
In 2010, the dollhouse app emerged victorious from a total of 228 entries in the Sanoma Media App Challenge. After presentations at the PICNIC event from the five nominees, the jury chose the overall winner. The lucky winners, Sandra Karis and Annemieke Teune, are now working at Sanoma Media, where their job is launching mobile apps.
Sandra Karis and Annemieke Teune, winners of the 2010 App Challenge: "We submitted no fewer than four ideas last year. The one that won is now in development: a dollhouse for your iPad, which lets boys and girls alike furnish their own house. The app is for children between four and ten. In addition to the prize money and the fact that the idea is being developed, we both got an amazing job out of the App Challenge working with the Mobile Development Team at Sanoma Media! Our team has launched as many as 30 apps this year alone!"

Why is Sanoma Media organising the App Challenge? That's easy: because we want to look to the future, debate new ideas with creative minds and provide a platform for innovation.
With the App Challenge, we're asking you to share your app idea with us. It could be an app for mobiles, tablet computers and any operating system, i.e. for Android, Apple, Blackberry or other devices. By competing, you have a shot at winning €5,000. And if we actually use your idea, you will receive another prize worth €5,000. What that prize is will be determined in consultation – it could be an assignment or advertising space, for example.
